‘The rarest robin’ features one of New Zealand’s most famous forest birds, a kakaruia or Chatham Island black robin. This hand signed high quality pigment art print is based on an original gouache illustration by Melissa Boardman.

Kakaruia are well known for being the bird that came back from the brink. At their lowest point only 5 birds remained and they were facing imminent extinction, incredible conservation efforts (and one incredible female black robin known as Old Blue) managed to save the species. Today their population sits at around 250 birds, they all live on remote off-shore islands where they are safe from the predators that almost wiped them out.

This print is created with long-lasting matte pigment inks on textured, high quality archival 100% cotton rag. (Cotton rag is an environmentally responsible paper made from lint fibres - a by-product of the cotton industry).
