‘Spring fantail’ features one of New Zealand’s most distinctive birds, the pīwakawaka or fantail. This hand signed high quality pigment print is based on an original gouache illustration by Melissa Boardman.

Fantails are much loved birds, they are reasonably common and can be found in forests and gardens around the country. They are celebrated for their energetic movements, friendly nature and flamboyant tail feathers.

This illustration is inspired by the interactions I’ve seen between fantail pairs, they move around frantically and occasionally perch, briefly, on a branch before resuming their antics.

This print is created with long-lasting matte pigment inks on textured, high quality archival 100% cotton rag. (Cotton rag is an environmentally responsible paper made from lint fibres - a by-product of the cotton industry).
