Highbury fling features a special pair of nesting titipounamu / rifleman.

Titipounamu / rifleman are New Zealand’s smallest birds, they weigh only 6 grams and are delightfully round. Titipounamu form life-long bond with their mate and spend their days together searching for insects.

This illustration is inspired by a special titipounamu pair that left Zealandia Ecosanctuary together and made themselves at home in neighbouring Waimiapihi Reserve, Wellington. The pair built successive nests on a track called Highbury fling and raised two clutches of chicks.

This art print is based on an original hand-painted gouache artwork. Each print is created with long-lasting matte pigment inks on textured, high quality archival 100% cotton rag paper.
